Apollo NZ GlobalStart Project Brief

Architectural Façades · Glass Curtain Wall Systems

Glass façades engineered as building envelopes — not decorative glazing.

Apollo's Architectural Glass Façades pathway covers selected aluminium curtain-wall systems for commercial, civic, hospitality, transport and development projects. Stick, concealed, semi-concealed, unitised and cassette / carrier-frame routes are reviewed against the actual building geometry, glass, structure, weather, thermal and destination requirements.

Quick project answers

What project teams need to establish before selecting a curtain-wall system.

01

Which glass façade systems can Apollo review?

The current project framework covers exposed-frame stick curtain wall, concealed or structural-look pathways, semi-concealed / hybrid framing, unitised façades and cassette / carrier-frame systems where the selected manufacturer can support the exact project.

02

Is this part of LYSVAR?

No. LYSVAR remains focused on pool and safety glass, balustrades and interior partitions. Architectural Glass Façades sits inside Apollo's Architectural Façades & Surface Systems division and deals with the external building envelope.

03

Can Apollo publish U-values, wind ratings or water-test results for these systems?

Only after the exact system and applicable evidence are verified. Generic supplier claims are not carried across to a project without confirming profile family, glass build-up, anchors, gaskets, drainage and tested configuration.

04

What information should be sent first?

Plans and elevations, façade dimensions, building height, floor-to-floor geometry, structural substrate, opening requirements, glass intent, site exposure, known wind / thermal / acoustic / fire criteria, destination and project programme are useful starting inputs.

SYSTEM FAMILIES

Five curtain-wall pathways. No generic “glass façade” specification.

The visual intent may look simple, but the final façade depends on structure, glass, drainage, air and water control, thermal movement, anchors, perimeter interfaces and destination requirements.

01

STICK / EXPOSED FRAME

Site-assembled mullion-and-transom curtain-wall pathway with the aluminium grid expressed as part of the façade architecture.

02

CONCEALED / STRUCTURAL-LOOK

A cleaner external glass expression where the visible framing is reduced, subject to the exact retained-glass, sealant, fixing and tested system.

03

SEMI-CONCEALED / HYBRID

Mixed exposed and concealed framing used to emphasise either the horizontal or vertical façade rhythm.

04

UNITISED

Factory-assembled façade modules for larger multi-storey projects where module size, slab-edge interface, transport, tolerances and installation sequence support the approach.

05

CASSETTE / CARRIER-FRAME

Panelised glazing pathway using framed or carrier-backed façade units where the selected manufacturer can support the exact system and project interfaces.

SYSTEM ANATOMY

The glass is only one part of the façade.

Serious curtain-wall review looks at the whole pressure-equalised, drained and structurally supported assembly. Apollo should never quote a glass thickness or mullion size in isolation from the exact system and project pressure criteria.

PROJECT INTERFACES

Curtain wall works when the neighbouring systems are coordinated early.

Glass façades sit at the intersection of structure, waterproofing, openings, interior construction, fire stopping and maintenance access. Those boundaries should be visible in the project brief, drawings and supply schedule.

UNITISED PATHWAY

Factory assembly can shift complexity off site — but it does not remove it.

Unitised systems can suit larger repetitive façades where module geometry, glass size, factory QA, slab-edge anchors, shipping racks and installation sequence are planned as one system. Apollo should only position unitised capability after confirming the manufacturer's real project references and test evidence.

TECHNICAL EVIDENCE GATE

What must exist before performance becomes a public claim.

Generic factory brochures are not enough. Evidence needs to identify the exact façade system or a clearly applicable tested configuration.

PROJECT ENGINEERING + COMPLIANCEDestination-specific

Architectural Glass Façades is an Apollo project pathway inside the Architectural Façades & Surface Systems division. It is not LYSVAR and it is not a generic glass-hardware catalogue.

Project pathways

Choose the façade system from architecture, performance and project logistics together.

01

Stick / exposed frame

Site-assembled mullion-and-transom façades where the framing grid forms part of the external expression.

02

Concealed / structural-look

Reduced external framing where the exact retained-glass and sealant/fixing system has appropriate evidence.

03

Semi-concealed / hybrid

Mixed framing strategies used to emphasise selected horizontal or vertical façade lines.

04

Unitised

Factory-assembled façade modules for larger repetitive projects with planned slab-edge anchors, shipping racks and installation sequence.

05

Cassette / carrier-frame

Panelised glazing units developed around a verified carrier or framed façade pathway.

06

Integrated façade zones

Glass, opaque panels, fins, soffits, entrances and architectural cladding coordinated around the same building elevations.

Project priorities

Performance belongs to the exact façade assembly, not the category name.

01

System identity

Profile family, glazing retention, gaskets, sealants, anchors and drainage details need to be tied to the selected system.

02

Project pressures

Wind pressure, glass design and frame deflection are calculated against the actual building and destination criteria.

03

Air + water

Drainage, pressure equalisation, perimeter seals and applicable test evidence are fundamental façade inputs.

04

Thermal + condensation

Frame thermal breaks, glass coatings, spandrel and perimeter conditions are reviewed where the project sets thermal criteria.

05

Movement + tolerances

Slab deflection, inter-storey movement, fabrication tolerances and installation adjustment need a coordinated design pathway.

06

Mock-up + QA

Visual or performance mock-ups, factory QA and installation inspection may be required by the project specification.

How Apollo fits

Move from architectural elevation to verified façade package in controlled stages.

Apollo is supply-only. Final façade engineering, glass design, structural anchors, air / water / thermal / fire performance, perimeter interfaces, installation, local professional review and statutory compliance remain project-specific.

01

Receive façade drawings

Review elevations, sections, floor-to-floor dimensions, glass intent, opaque zones, openings and structural interfaces.

02

Select the system pathway

Compare stick, concealed, hybrid, unitised or cassette options against architecture, building height, module repetition and logistics.

03

Verify technical evidence

Confirm profile/system identity, relevant tests, structural calculations, glass build-up, finishes and perimeter assumptions.

04

Coordinate interfaces

Resolve structure, slab edge, entrances, opaque cladding, spandrels, fire stopping, drainage and adjacent envelope systems.

05

Freeze fabrication + supply scope

Shop drawings, samples/mock-ups, component schedule, packing, installation information and local responsibilities are confirmed before production.
