SPORT + CLUBS

An Apollo NZ Global Initiative

Plan the next stage around the facility and members you already have.

SPORT + CLUBS is a practical planning pathway for clubs and community facilities assessing court upgrades, new activities, lighting, weather protection, spectator areas, training spaces, technology and staged growth.

Start with the organisation

Most club projects are upgrades, not blank-site developments.

Record the condition and use of existing courts, greens, slabs, buildings, lighting, power, storage, hospitality and spectator areas. Then identify what currently limits participation, programming or operating hours before selecting new systems.

PROJECT AUDIT

Check the project before selecting systems.

PLANNING SEQUENCE

Work in this order.

A staged sequence reduces rework. Resolve the organisation and site first, then technical systems, then procurement and future stages.

01

Audit the existing club

Document members, programmes, peak use and the physical assets the club already owns.

02

Find the actual constraint

Identify whether the bottleneck is surface condition, capacity, weather, lighting, circulation, storage or something else.

03

Set the upgrade hierarchy

Rank safety and maintenance work first, then participation growth, operating-hour improvements and optional additions.

04

Coordinate compatible stages

Plan surfaces, lighting, covers, seating, technology, access and services so each stage supports the next.

05

Build the club brief

Separate immediate works, later stages, Apollo supply scope and local project responsibilities in one review package.

DECISION WORKSHEET

Questions the project team should be able to answer.

01What currently limits the club most: condition, capacity, operating hours, weather, member experience or maintenance?

02Which existing assets can be retained, repaired or repurposed?

03What are the measured dimensions and known conditions of the areas being upgraded?

04What new activity or capacity does the club genuinely expect to support?

05Which upgrades must happen together because of foundations, power, drainage, access or layout?

06What can be staged without creating expensive rework later?

07Who owns maintenance, local works, installation, engineering and approvals after supply?

08What information is still missing before the club can compare realistic project pathways?

SPORT + ACADEMY

Use the Academy that matches the project.

Move from organisation-level planning into the specific sport or facility decision. The Academies are self-guided education and planning pathways, not formal qualifications.

SPORT + TOOLS

Turn the planning into a usable brief.

Use the tools after the early questions are understood. They help organise dimensions, surface choices, layouts and the project information Apollo needs for review.
