The coastline can challenge the same component in several ways.

Wind pressure, debris, salt, UV, water and limited maintenance access can all affect an opening or exposed system. Product selection should account for operation and service years after installation, not only the day of the storm.

Storm surge changes ground-floor priorities.

Entrances, garages, plant rooms, low service openings and drainage routes become particularly important where coastal water can reach the building. Flood protection should be coordinated with the wind-protection strategy.
