INDOOR SPORTS STORAGE + CHANGEOVER

LUTHVAR COMPLETE · VENUE OPERATIONS

Design the storage and movement path around the equipment before the room becomes too small.

Indoor sports equipment is only practical if it can be moved, parked, stored and returned to play without damaging the floor or blocking the venue. This centre coordinates storage and changeover across Basketball, Netball, Volleyball, Badminton, Futsal, Handball and Floorball using exact equipment data as it becomes available.

PLANNING METHOD

Eight steps from equipment list to workable storage.

The sequence prevents the common mistake of allocating a nominal store room before anyone knows what has to move through the door or how the equipment stacks.

01

Inventory the equipment

List each sport, equipment family, quantity, removable accessories, trolleys, floor rolls, protection and maintenance equipment that must leave the playing area.

02

Record parked dimensions

Use exact selected-system parked dimensions, stacking method and required working clearance. Do not size storage from deployed dimensions or visual assumptions.

03

Define handling method

Identify manual carry, wheeled base, dedicated trolley, powered movement, dismantling or panel stacking for every equipment family.

04

Trace the movement route

Map the path between playing position and storage, including turning points, floor changes, spectator zones, dividers and other parked equipment.

05

Check doors + thresholds

Verify clear opening, height where relevant, threshold detail, corridor width, turning space and whether loaded equipment can pass without damaging the floor or building.

06

Build the storage bay

Plan bays, racks, parking positions and working aisles around the actual equipment set and access sequence—not the nominal room area alone.

07

Model the changeover

Define the operating sequence, number of moves, equipment order, likely crew, temporary parking and what must happen before the next sport can start.

08

Protect the floor + interfaces

Coordinate wheel loads, floor protection, caps, sleeves, anchors, wall edges and storage-room finishes with the exact equipment and sports-floor system.

SPORT STORAGE MATRIX

The storage problem changes with the equipment.

Each sport keeps its own exact equipment pathway, while the building can share storage rooms, routes and operating procedures where the real equipment permits it.

OPERATING MODELS

Four storage strategies for four venue types.

These are planning models, not fixed room sizes. Actual storage dimensions follow the selected equipment, quantities, trolleys and required working clearance.

01School & Community

Durable, supervised changeover

Simple movement · secure storage · easy reset

  • Prioritise robust portable / removable equipment
  • Keep storage routes short and obvious
  • Separate loose accessories from large moving equipment
  • Use clear parking positions and basic equipment identification
  • Avoid changeover methods that depend on specialist event crews
Can staff safely reset the hall during a normal school / community timetable?
02Club & Training

Repeatable daily operation

Higher equipment count · faster turnaround · repeat-use protection

  • Plan multiple sport sets and training accessories
  • Use dedicated racks / trolleys where repeated handling justifies them
  • Protect high-use doorways, corners and finished sports floors
  • Keep equipment grouped by court / sport where useful
  • Allow working clearance for loading and unloading
Can the venue change sport repeatedly without equipment damage or storage congestion?
03Competition

Controlled event changeover

Exact equipment · officials systems · spectator constraints

  • Separate competition equipment from training / community stock
  • Coordinate scorer / officials equipment with the event setup sequence
  • Protect spectator circulation during equipment movement
  • Define temporary staging areas where needed
  • Document the operating order and responsibility for reset
Can competition equipment be deployed and removed without disrupting event circulation or exact court setup?
04Arena / Event

Back-of-house logistics

Large equipment · event overlay · multiple crews

  • Treat storage and movement as a back-of-house logistics system
  • Coordinate major display / seating / broadcast overlays with sport equipment routes
  • Separate daily sport storage from event-only equipment where practical
  • Allow for temporary staging, marshalling and protected floor routes
  • Integrate operating procedures into venue handover
Can major event changeovers occur without blocking loading, circulation, spectator or broadcast operations?

MOVEMENT-ROUTE CHECK

Check the route with the equipment in its real moving condition.

A store room can have enough floor area and still fail because the loaded trolley cannot turn, a backstop cannot pass the doorway, or the route crosses equipment that is already parked.

CHANGEOVER SEQUENCE

Plan the operating order, not just the destination.

Where multiple sports share the hall, the sequence can determine whether equipment routes remain clear and whether the floor is protected during the transition.

01

Close active play

Clear players, officials and loose equipment before large equipment starts moving.

02

Make safe

Isolate powered equipment where required, release or secure approved restraints and fit temporary floor protection where needed.

03

Remove in route order

Move the equipment that blocks later travel first, preserving access to doors, trolleys and storage bays.

04

Park + store

Return equipment to marked positions with accessories, padding, nets, caps or controls stored in the planned location.

05

Reset interfaces

Close sleeves / caps, remove temporary protection, reset restraints and confirm floor / wall interfaces are ready.

06

Deploy next sport

Install the next equipment set in the reverse coordinated route and complete the required operating checks.

STORAGE INFORMATION BEFORE QUOTE

What Apollo needs to check the real storage and changeover pathway.

Exact equipment dimensions may still be pending, but the building and operating information should be mature enough to prevent an obviously unworkable storage concept.

PROJECT PATHWAY

Storage should close alongside equipment selection—not after the sports hall is built.

Use the sport Technical Centres for exact equipment pathways, the Architect & Specifier Centre for building coordination, and the Submittal Centre to control the drawings and technical release.
