Terms such as hurricane rated, impact resistant and 180 mph only become useful when the exact tested product, size, pressure, impact category, fixings and installation configuration are understood.

Wind speed and design pressure answer different questions.

Regional wind speed describes hazard. Component selection usually needs the positive and negative pressures acting on the actual opening, which can vary with building height, terrain, geometry, façade zone and opening size.

02Project guidance

ASTM E1996 and E1886 apply to defined impact-protective systems.

Where these standards are relevant, review the exact system tested, dimensions, impact classification and subsequent cyclic-pressure requirements. A brochure mentioning a standard is not enough by itself.

03Project guidance

Garage and rolling doors require careful scope checking.

The current ASTM E1996-26 scope excludes exterior garage and rolling doors, so Apollo keeps large-door evidence separate rather than automatically applying fenestration impact language to those products.

04Project guidance

Apollo uses GREEN / HOLD / REJECT claim control.

GREEN means evidence supports the intended public claim. HOLD means the product can remain in the range but a specific numerical or certification claim needs more evidence. REJECT means the available evidence does not support the intended severe-weather statement.

Apollo's customer pages intentionally avoid blanket numerical hurricane claims. Final compliance remains project- and jurisdiction-specific, and overseas test evidence does not automatically replace local engineering or approval requirements.
