Protect the building's biggest door opening

Hurricane and cyclone protection for garages, workshops and vehicle entrances.

Garage and service doors can occupy a substantial part of an exterior wall. Apollo assesses these openings as their own protection category rather than treating them as oversized windows.

01Project guidance

Do not leave the largest opening unprotected.

A garage door may be far larger than any individual window. Residential garages, resort service areas, workshops and commercial vehicle entrances should all be included in the building-wide severe-weather review.

02Project guidance

Standard garage doors and hurricane protection are not the same category.

Some projects may use a severe-weather-rated everyday door. Others may retain the existing garage door and add separate external protection. The chosen product and documentation need to support the required function.

03Project guidance

Tracks and head support carry major loads.

Large shutters place substantial demands on guide tracks, barrel/head support, brackets and surrounding structure. New builds can plan these load paths more cleanly than late retrofits.

04Project guidance

Garage and rolling-door standards can follow different testing pathways.

Do not automatically apply window and impact-shutter standards to exterior garage or rolling doors. Project documentation needs to follow the appropriate product and jurisdictional pathway.

Technical claim control

Performance follows the exact system and project.

Opening size, positive and negative design pressures, impact requirements, tracks or frames, anchors and structural substrate all affect final performance. Apollo ties numerical wind, impact and certification claims to the applicable tested or engineered configuration rather than applying one blanket rating to an entire product family.
