How Much Does Sports Flooring Cost in New Zealand?
Sports-flooring prices can look similar until the base, installation method and full system build-up are included. A site-applied court coating, modular tile system, resilient roll floor and competition hardwood floor should not be compared using one generic square-metre number.
Planning guidance — final supplied configuration remains project-specific.

01
Start with the supporting base
Cracking, moisture, uneven levels, contamination, ponding and poor drainage can add preparation work before the sports surface is installed. On many refurbishment projects, base repair is a bigger variable than the finish material itself.
New-build courts should separate earthworks, slab or asphalt construction and drainage from the sports-surface supply so quotations can be compared on the same basis.
02
Different surface families have different cost structures
Applied acrylic systems use on-site preparation and multiple coating layers. Roll systems add seams, adhesive or fixing strategy and handling. Modular surfaces add edge, expansion and base-interface requirements. Hardwood and engineered indoor systems add subfloor, moisture and resilient-support considerations.
The useful comparison is whole system, expected use and lifecycle rather than material thickness alone.
03
Line marking, colour and graphics can affect the package
Single-sport courts are generally simpler than heavily shared multi-sport layouts. Additional colours, logos, zoning and overlapping line hierarchies require more project coordination and can add material or installation work depending on the surface system.
04
Indoor and outdoor projects should not be priced as the same job
Outdoor surfaces must deal with UV, rain, drainage and temperature movement. Indoor surfaces can introduce moisture control, subfloor resilience, rolling loads, cleaning and multi-use hall requirements.
A surface selected only because its unit price is lower can become poor value if it does not match the operating environment.
05
Supply-only and installed pricing need to be separated
New Zealand market pricing often combines product, base preparation and installation. Apollo's ATHREN pathway is primarily supply-focused, so local preparation, installation and civil work should be separated unless specifically included in writing.
Freight, unloading, storage and access also need to be included when comparing a locally installed quote with an imported product-supply package.

What Apollo needs for a sports-flooring cost review
The brief should identify the sport, area, substrate and operating environment before a surface family is priced.
