SPECIALIST · AQUATICS TECHNICAL CENTRE

Aquatics facility technical centre.

Competition aquatics connects the pool shell and water treatment to starting, lanes, timing, results, water polo, deck operations, spectators and dryland support. Apollo's role is supply-side coordination of the systems it provides, not local pool engineering.

Apollo Technical Reference · Edition 2026.1 · Governing references reviewed October 2026 · always verify the current competition documents for final design.

HOW TO USE THIS CENTRE

Rules tell you how the sport is played. A facility has to make those rules work in a real building or site.

This page connects playing geometry to structure, surfaces, equipment, lighting, spectators, accessibility, storage, technology, testing and maintenance. It does not replace the governing body, local engineer, architect or statutory authority; it makes the interfaces visible before procurement.

INTERACTIVE FACILITY MAP

See the aquatics facility as one connected system.

Select a layer to see why it matters. This is a conceptual coordination map—not a dimensioned court, field, structural or compliance drawing.

FACILITY LEVEL MATRIX

The technical brief changes with the level of venue.

Do not copy elite-event requirements into every community project—or under-specify a competition venue from a school checklist.

01Schools · councils · participation

Community / education

School/community pool with training lanes and basic competition equipment.

02Clubs · academies · universities

Club / academy

Club/academy facility with stronger starting, timing and dryland support.

03Regional · national competition

04International · professional · broadcast

Elite / major venue

Major aquatic centre with elite competition, FÍSVOR, broadcast, spectator, water-polo and operations systems.

12 TECHNICAL TOPICS

Design the complete aquatics environment.

Each topic is part of the same facility. Changing one layer can affect several others, which is why product selection should follow the complete brief.

01

Playing geometry

Pool length, lane geometry, deck clearances and discipline-specific requirements must come from the current competition brief and local pool designer.

02

Surface / playing system

Wet-deck slip resistance, pool-edge interfaces and aquatic equipment mounting are specialist interfaces separate from ordinary sports flooring.

03

Sport equipment

Starting blocks, lane ropes, backstroke systems, water-polo goals/field equipment and deck hardware need exact compatibility with the pool structure.

04

Lighting

Competition/broadcast lighting must manage water reflection, glare and camera sightlines.

05

Spectators

Plan humid-environment seating, accessible viewing, deck separation and event circulation.

06

Structure + building interface

Starting anchors, lane sockets, display supports and spectator structures need coordination with the pool shell/building.

07

Environment

Humidity, chlorides, condensation and corrosion control are fundamental material-selection inputs.

08

Accessibility

Accessible wet-deck circulation, viewing and pool-access systems belong in the overall facility plan.

09

Storage + changeover

Lane ropes, goals, timing gear and deck equipment require wet-compatible storage and handling routes.

10

Technology + controls

Timing touchpads, starting, results, FÍSVOR display, PA and data systems should be developed as one competition-control architecture.

11

Evidence + standards

Use current World Aquatics Competition Regulations and discipline documents; exact equipment approval and local pool compliance remain separate.

12

Maintenance + lifecycle

Control chloride exposure, rinse/dry equipment, inspect fixings/cables/touchpads, service timing, maintain lane ropes and manage spare electronic modules.

EVIDENCE LADDER

Do not collapse different kinds of evidence into one “approved” claim.

01

Official rule / governing reference

Defines the sport or competition requirement. It does not automatically approve a supplier or construction detail.

02

Product test / approval

Applies to an exact surface, equipment item or system configuration and the scope stated by the governing programme.

03

Installed facility test / certification

Where the sport offers it, field/court/facility testing confirms the finished installation rather than only the product.

04

Project engineering

Foundations, supports, wind/seismic loads, electrical, building interfaces and local-code compliance remain project-specific.

05

Commercial release

Warranty, documentation, spares, freight, installation responsibility and exact quoted configuration are closed before order.

SPECIFICATION INPUTS

Information a useful aquatics specification should contain.

These inputs can become a consultant brief, RFP schedule or Apollo project review without prematurely inventing an exact model.

PERFORMANCE-SPECIFICATION STARTERS

Clause intent that can be developed into the project specification.

These are performance-based starting points, not a substitute for the project architect, engineer, governing body or exact selected-system data.

01 · GEOMETRY

Playing environment

Pool length, lane geometry, deck clearances and discipline-specific requirements must come from the current competition brief and local pool designer.

02 · PLAYING SYSTEM

Surface performance

Wet-deck slip resistance, pool-edge interfaces and aquatic equipment mounting are specialist interfaces separate from ordinary sports flooring.

03 · EVIDENCE

Evidence and approvals

Use current World Aquatics Competition Regulations and discipline documents; exact equipment approval and local pool compliance remain separate.

04 · HANDOVER

Maintenance and lifecycle

Control chloride exposure, rinse/dry equipment, inspect fixings/cables/touchpads, service timing, maintain lane ropes and manage spare electronic modules.

DRAWING ROADMAP

Draw the interfaces that words usually miss.

Public planning diagrams can define intent. Exact fabrication, foundation, fixing and model drawings should follow only when the selected system is verified.

TECHNICAL DIAGRAM PACK

Aquatics planning diagrams for the interfaces that written specifications miss.

Four vector sheets cover plan geometry, vertical coordination, equipment/operations and spectator/technology interfaces. Verified sport dimensions are shown only where the technical baseline supports them; conceptual allowances remain explicitly labelled.

Planning diagram status

These diagrams organise coordination information. They are not fabrication drawings, engineering drawings, construction details, certified court/field layouts or statutory documentation. Current governing-body requirements, exact selected-system drawings and local professional design take precedence.
