SPECIALIST · COMBAT SPORTS TECHNICAL CENTRE

Combat Sports facility technical centre.

Combat-sports facilities vary sharply by discipline—ring sports, tatami sports, grappling, boxing-style and martial-arts pathways all have different competition areas and safety requirements. The facility should start from the exact discipline and governing rules rather than a generic mat room.

Apollo Technical Reference · Edition 2026.1 · Governing references reviewed October 2026 · always verify the current competition documents for final design.

HOW TO USE THIS CENTRE

Rules tell you how the sport is played. A facility has to make those rules work in a real building or site.

This page connects playing geometry to structure, surfaces, equipment, lighting, spectators, accessibility, storage, technology, testing and maintenance. It does not replace the governing body, local engineer, architect or statutory authority; it makes the interfaces visible before procurement.

INTERACTIVE FACILITY MAP

See the combat sports facility as one connected system.

Select a layer to see why it matters. This is a conceptual coordination map—not a dimensioned court, field, structural or compliance drawing.

FACILITY LEVEL MATRIX

The technical brief changes with the level of venue.

Do not copy elite-event requirements into every community project—or under-specify a competition venue from a school checklist.

01Schools · councils · participation

Community / education

Community/club training room with safe mats, supervision and equipment storage.

02Clubs · academies · universities

Club / academy

Academy with multiple training zones, bag/ring areas, strength support and spectators.

03Regional · national competition

Competition

Competition-capable venue configured to the exact discipline and governing-body rules.

04International · professional · broadcast

Elite / major venue

Major event arena with rings/tatami, warm-up, medical, officials, spectators, display and broadcast.

12 TECHNICAL TOPICS

Design the complete combat sports environment.

Each topic is part of the same facility. Changing one layer can affect several others, which is why product selection should follow the complete brief.

01

Playing geometry

Define the exact discipline, ring/tatami/contest area, safety margin, warm-up, officials and athlete circulation from the applicable rules.

02

Surface / playing system

Mats, ring canvas/platforms and impact flooring should match discipline, fall/footwork demands and cleaning requirements.

03

Sport equipment

Rings, cages where applicable, ropes/padding, tatami mats, bags, judging tables and protective equipment need exact evidence and safe setup.

04

Lighting

Provide even visibility with minimal glare to athletes, judges and cameras; avoid shadows across rings/tatami.

05

Spectators

Separate athletes, coaches, officials, medical access and spectators around competition areas.

06

Structure + building interface

Raised rings/platforms, suspended bags, lighting, scoreboards and spectator systems require structural coordination.

07

Environment

Ventilation, temperature, humidity, cleaning and odour control are significant operational factors in high-use facilities.

08

Accessibility

Accessible venue circulation, viewing and inclusive/adaptive programmes should be incorporated where relevant.

09

Storage + changeover

Mats, rings/components, bags, pads, protective equipment and event furniture require hygienic, secure storage.

10

Technology + controls

Timing, scoring, judging, FÍSVOR displays, PA and cameras should match the exact discipline/event workflow.

11

Evidence + standards

Use the governing body for the exact combat discipline. WAKO, for example, publishes separate ring/tatami rules and current rule-change notices.

12

Maintenance + lifecycle

Inspect mats, ring/platform, ropes/padding, anchors, bags, timing/scoring, lighting and cleaning/hygiene controls.

EVIDENCE LADDER

Do not collapse different kinds of evidence into one “approved” claim.

01

Official rule / governing reference

Defines the sport or competition requirement. It does not automatically approve a supplier or construction detail.

02

Product test / approval

Applies to an exact surface, equipment item or system configuration and the scope stated by the governing programme.

03

Installed facility test / certification

Where the sport offers it, field/court/facility testing confirms the finished installation rather than only the product.

04

Project engineering

Foundations, supports, wind/seismic loads, electrical, building interfaces and local-code compliance remain project-specific.

05

Commercial release

Warranty, documentation, spares, freight, installation responsibility and exact quoted configuration are closed before order.

SPECIFICATION INPUTS

Information a useful combat sports specification should contain.

These inputs can become a consultant brief, RFP schedule or Apollo project review without prematurely inventing an exact model.

PERFORMANCE-SPECIFICATION STARTERS

Clause intent that can be developed into the project specification.

These are performance-based starting points, not a substitute for the project architect, engineer, governing body or exact selected-system data.

01 · GEOMETRY

Playing environment

Define the exact discipline, ring/tatami/contest area, safety margin, warm-up, officials and athlete circulation from the applicable rules.

02 · PLAYING SYSTEM

Surface performance

Mats, ring canvas/platforms and impact flooring should match discipline, fall/footwork demands and cleaning requirements.

03 · EVIDENCE

Evidence and approvals

Use the governing body for the exact combat discipline. WAKO, for example, publishes separate ring/tatami rules and current rule-change notices.

04 · HANDOVER

Maintenance and lifecycle

Inspect mats, ring/platform, ropes/padding, anchors, bags, timing/scoring, lighting and cleaning/hygiene controls.

DRAWING ROADMAP

Draw the interfaces that words usually miss.

Public planning diagrams can define intent. Exact fabrication, foundation, fixing and model drawings should follow only when the selected system is verified.

TECHNICAL DIAGRAM PACK

Combat Sports planning diagrams for the interfaces that written specifications miss.

Four vector sheets cover plan geometry, vertical coordination, equipment/operations and spectator/technology interfaces. Verified sport dimensions are shown only where the technical baseline supports them; conceptual allowances remain explicitly labelled.

Planning diagram status

These diagrams organise coordination information. They are not fabrication drawings, engineering drawings, construction details, certified court/field layouts or statutory documentation. Current governing-body requirements, exact selected-system drawings and local professional design take precedence.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Common symptoms worth investigating.

01

Mats separate / gap

Stop use in affected area and review joins/restraint and floor flatness.

02

Ring movement

Inspect frame, platform and anchoring before further use.

03

Poor hygiene / odour

Review cleaning chemistry, drying, ventilation and storage.

04

Lighting glare

Review aiming and fixture position relative to athletes/judges.

05

Event circulation conflict

Separate athlete, medical, officials and public routes.

06

Wrong competition setup

Verify the exact discipline rule book rather than using a generic combat-sport layout.
