FIELD · LACROSSE TECHNICAL CENTRE

Lacrosse facility technical centre.

Lacrosse spans men's field, women's field, box and Sixes formats, so the facility must start from the intended discipline. Sixes provides a compact international field pathway while full-field and box variants require different geometry and containment.

Apollo Technical Reference · Edition 2026.1 · Governing references reviewed October 2026 · always verify the current competition documents for final design.

HOW TO USE THIS CENTRE

Rules tell you how the sport is played. A facility has to make those rules work in a real building or site.

This page connects playing geometry to structure, surfaces, equipment, lighting, spectators, accessibility, storage, technology, testing and maintenance. It does not replace the governing body, local engineer, architect or statutory authority; it makes the interfaces visible before procurement.

INTERACTIVE FACILITY MAP

See the lacrosse facility as one connected system.

Select a layer to see why it matters. This is a conceptual coordination map—not a dimensioned court, field, structural or compliance drawing.

02Clubs · academies · universities

Club / academy

Club/academy venue with repeat use, benches, storage and stronger lighting.

03Regional · national competition

Competition

Competition facility matched to the exact lacrosse discipline and current rule set.

04International · professional · broadcast

Elite / major venue

Major event venue with spectators, FÍSVOR, broadcast lighting, media and controlled operations.

12 TECHNICAL TOPICS

Design the complete lacrosse environment.

Each topic is part of the same facility. Changing one layer can affect several others, which is why product selection should follow the complete brief.

01

Playing geometry

Choose men's field, women's field, box or Sixes before setting out the venue. World Lacrosse Sixes uses a 70 × 36 m field for recognised events.

02

Surface / playing system

Natural or synthetic field pathways should be selected around traction, ball response, drainage, use intensity and the discipline.

03

Sport equipment

Goals, nets, crease/marking systems, benches and protective netting should match the exact lacrosse format.

04

Lighting

Fast ball movement requires good uniformity, vertical visibility and glare control for players, officials and cameras.

05

Spectators

Containment, player benches, penalty/scorer zones and spectator areas should remain safely separated.

06

Structure + building interface

Goals, high netting, lighting, scoreboards and spectator structures require project-specific foundations/supports.

07

Environment

Wind, rain, heat, frost and drainage affect field performance and containment operation.

08

Accessibility

Accessible viewing and precinct circulation should be integrated without encroaching on player/safety zones.

09

Storage + changeover

Goals, nets, cones, bench equipment and maintenance gear require secure storage and practical field access.

10

Technology + controls

Score/time, penalty clocks where applicable, FÍSVOR, PA and cameras should align with officials and spectator sightlines.

11

Evidence + standards

Use the current World Lacrosse rule book for the selected discipline; exact equipment evidence and local engineering remain project-specific.

12

Maintenance + lifecycle

Inspect surface, markings, goals/nets, containment, benches, lighting, scoring and storage systems on a defined schedule.

EVIDENCE LADDER

Do not collapse different kinds of evidence into one “approved” claim.

01

Official rule / governing reference

Defines the sport or competition requirement. It does not automatically approve a supplier or construction detail.

02

Product test / approval

Applies to an exact surface, equipment item or system configuration and the scope stated by the governing programme.

03

Installed facility test / certification

Where the sport offers it, field/court/facility testing confirms the finished installation rather than only the product.

04

Project engineering

Foundations, supports, wind/seismic loads, electrical, building interfaces and local-code compliance remain project-specific.

05

Commercial release

Warranty, documentation, spares, freight, installation responsibility and exact quoted configuration are closed before order.

SPECIFICATION INPUTS

Information a useful lacrosse specification should contain.

These inputs can become a consultant brief, RFP schedule or Apollo project review without prematurely inventing an exact model.

PERFORMANCE-SPECIFICATION STARTERS

Clause intent that can be developed into the project specification.

These are performance-based starting points, not a substitute for the project architect, engineer, governing body or exact selected-system data.

01 · GEOMETRY

Playing environment

Choose men's field, women's field, box or Sixes before setting out the venue. World Lacrosse Sixes uses a 70 × 36 m field for recognised events.

02 · PLAYING SYSTEM

Surface performance

Natural or synthetic field pathways should be selected around traction, ball response, drainage, use intensity and the discipline.

03 · EVIDENCE

Evidence and approvals

Use the current World Lacrosse rule book for the selected discipline; exact equipment evidence and local engineering remain project-specific.

04 · HANDOVER

Maintenance and lifecycle

Inspect surface, markings, goals/nets, containment, benches, lighting, scoring and storage systems on a defined schedule.

DRAWING ROADMAP

Draw the interfaces that words usually miss.

Public planning diagrams can define intent. Exact fabrication, foundation, fixing and model drawings should follow only when the selected system is verified.

TECHNICAL DIAGRAM PACK

Lacrosse planning diagrams for the interfaces that written specifications miss.

Four vector sheets cover plan geometry, vertical coordination, equipment/operations and spectator/technology interfaces. Verified sport dimensions are shown only where the technical baseline supports them; conceptual allowances remain explicitly labelled.

Planning diagram status

These diagrams organise coordination information. They are not fabrication drawings, engineering drawings, construction details, certified court/field layouts or statutory documentation. Current governing-body requirements, exact selected-system drawings and local professional design take precedence.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Common symptoms worth investigating.

01

Balls escape the field

Review netting height, side/end coverage, openings and damaged mesh.

02

Goal movement

Inspect restraint/anchors and frame condition.

03

Poor ball visibility

Review lighting, backgrounds and glare.

04

Surface inconsistent

Check drainage, turf/grass condition and maintenance.

05

Bench area congested

Review team/scorer/penalty geometry for the selected format.

06

Wrong field layout

Confirm the exact men's, women's, box or Sixes rule set before remarking.

SPORTS PLANNING CALCULATORS

Turn early ideas into measurable planning inputs.

These are concept-planning tools—not engineering, certification, accessibility or photometric calculators. Every input is visible and editable so assumptions stay explicit.

World Lacrosse Sixes uses a 70 × 36 m field for recognised events; the 78 × 44 m envelope adds an editable 4 m conceptual planning allowance around the playing field.

CALCULATOR 02

Surface planning quantity

2620.8 m²planning quantity incl. allowance

This is area arithmetic only. Roll widths, tile modules, seams, line systems, perimeter details and manufacturer-specific waste factors can change the final order quantity.

CALCULATOR 03

Spectator concept

50seats per row concept
27 mapproximate row length

Not a code or sightline calculation. Final rows, aisles, vomitories, accessible positions, guards, rake and egress must be developed by the project team.

BUILDER 04

Lighting brief

01Confirm the sport and exact competition level.

02Define the playing area plus spectator, camera and officials zones.

03Coordinate luminaire locations with structure, roof services, poles and maintenance access.

04Control glare for players, officials and spectators.

05Confirm local electrical, emergency-lighting and spill-light requirements.

06Define training, match and reduced-energy operating modes where controls support them.

NEXT STEP

Carry the assumptions into the technical and specification workflow.

Men's field, women's field and box lacrosse use different geometry; this baseline is Sixes only. Verify the current discipline-specific World Lacrosse rules and venue safety zones before design release.
