ATHREN Timber · Installation Planning

Base-first installation planning for sprung timber sports floors.

A structured interpretation of the current single- and double-batten installation instructions, with disputed details deliberately held for project confirmation.

Installation sequence

Resolve the slab before the playing surface arrives.

The current documents make slab level, batten set-out, moisture control, movement and ventilation part of the complete floor system rather than installer afterthoughts.

01

Site datum + slab check

Establish the project datum and check the concrete base. The current instructions specify a reference deviation of no more than 5 mm under a 2 m straightedge.

02

Clean + level

Remove loose mortar and debris, survey the base and identify local height differences before timber installation starts.

03

Set out the batten grid

Set out the timber support lines to the approved project drawing. Current source documents use a 400 mm planning grid in the batten layout.

04

Install resilient supports

Fit the lower rubber levelling / shock-support elements. Exact spacing is held until the factory resolves the current document inconsistency.

05

Install battens

Install the single batten layer or the lower + upper batten arrangement for the double system, then complete accurate levelling.

06

Install 19 mm subfloor

Lay the solid-pine subfloor approximately 45° to the timber battens, with documented gaps between rough-board rows.

07

Moisture membrane

Install the 0.5 mm EPE membrane with joints taped and arranged to avoid unsuitable overlap.

08

Install birch playing surface

Lay the finished boards in the approved venue orientation, using the specified fixing method and movement provisions.

09

Expansion + ventilation

Provide perimeter expansion and the project-specific intermediate movement / ventilation details shown in the current installation instructions.

Important: the current source documents contain conflicting rubber-pad spacing references. The public installation guide therefore does not publish a final pad spacing until the factory confirms the correct value for each approved construction.

ATHREN · technical diagrams

Two sprung timber systems, drawn as complete floor build-ups.

These original diagrams translate the current factory installation documents into a clean ATHREN planning language. They show documented layer order and nominal build heights, while disputed spacing and model-specific performance remain deliberately unlabelled.

BASE + EXPANSION COORDINATION

Slab flatness, expansion and ventilation belong in the same floor brief.

Current instructions document a ≤5 mm / 2 m base check, perimeter expansion, intermediate movement provisions and finished-floor ventilation.

Before release

Use the installation guide with the project brief.

Finished-floor level, slab moisture, underfloor services, wall interfaces, sockets and court equipment should be coordinated before the batten layout is frozen.
