3×3 Basketball
Facility Specification Pack

A 3×3 facility is not simply half a basketball court. Permanent community courts, commercial-social venues and event courts need their own footprint, drainage, equipment, lighting, scoring, circulation and operational strategy.

PROJECT PATHProject Brief
01

PROJECT INTENT

Define the facility level before selecting systems.

01Schools · councils · participation

Community / education

Permanent participation court with durable outdoor surface, backstop and practical lighting.

02Clubs · academies · universities

Club / academy

Club / social court with spectator edge, scoring and repeat operating model.

03Regional · national competition

Competition

Competition court with exact approved surface/equipment, shot clock and event zoning.

04International · professional · broadcast

Elite / major venue

Broadcast/event court with temporary infrastructure, media, audience, display and rapid installation/changeover.

02

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

Twelve coordination clauses for the complete facility.

01

geometry

Use the dedicated 3×3 footprint and free-space requirements rather than simply cutting a 5-on-5 hall in half. Protect player run-off, scorer, bench, spectator and event-service zones.

02

surface

Outdoor systems should be checked for UV weathering, wet slip, permeability / drainage, thermal expansion and base tolerance. Temporary/event systems need transport, assembly and flatness controls.

03

equipment

Backstop geometry, board/ring, padding and anchoring or ballast must match the exact permanent or event system.

04

lighting

Community lighting and broadcast/event lighting are different briefs. Define hours, spill-light controls, cameras and temporary-event power before fixture selection.

05

spectators

Protect the player boundary while creating close spectator energy. Temporary barriers, seating, fan zones and accessible viewing need defined offsets.

06

structure

Review pole/foundation or temporary support conditions, scoreboard/display supports, shade/cover and wind exposure.

07

environment

Outdoor courts need solar orientation, heat expansion, wind, rain and stormwater planning. Avoid tree debris and uncontrolled runoff onto the playing area.

08

accessibility

Provide accessible court approach, ramped tile edges where required, inclusive player access and accessible spectator positions.

09

storage

Event tiles, barriers, backstop components, shot clocks and furniture require transport cases, dry storage, handling routes and an installation sequence.

10

technology

Shot clock, scoring, PA, FÍSVOR event display, streaming/camera and content-control systems should be tested as one event layer.

11

evidence

Confirm exact FIBA 3×3 Approved surface/equipment where the competition brief requires it; keep product approval separate from local base, electrical and structural work.

12

lifecycle

Inspect tile movement, edges, drainage, surface wear, backstop stability, pads, fasteners, clocks, cables and spare parts on a defined schedule.

03

05

EVIDENCE & RELEASE

Keep each evidence type attached to what it actually proves.

01

Governing rule

Defines sport or competition requirements. It does not approve a supplier or local construction detail.

02

Exact product evidence

Testing, approval, certification or manufacturer evidence must match the selected product/configuration.

03

Installed outcome

Where applicable, field/court/facility certification relates to the completed installation rather than the product alone.

04

Project engineering

Foundations, structural supports, wind/seismic, electrical and building interfaces remain project-specific.

05

Commercial release

Quantity, documentation, warranty, freight, installation boundaries, spares and handover are closed before order.

06

MAINTENANCE & HANDOVER

Specify how performance will be maintained.

01

Surface cleaning

02

Drainage inspection

03

Tile edge / expansion checks

04

Backstop and padding checks

05

Shot-clock functional test

06

Lighting inspection

07

Event hardware inventory

07

TECHNICAL RISK CHECK

Common symptoms that should trigger investigation.

01

Ponding after rain

Check base falls, permeability, blocked drainage and local surface undulation.

02

Tiles buckling in heat

Check expansion allowance, edge restraint and installation temperature.

03

Backstop movement

Check anchoring/ballast, base level and hardware.

04

Wet slip

Check surface condition, contaminants and approved outdoor slip characteristics.

05

Clock visibility

Check position, sun angle, brightness and spectator/player sightline.

06

Event setup too slow

Map component packing, court sequence, handling equipment and crew roles.

08

SUPPLY BOUNDARY

Apollo is supply-only.

Local design, foundations, civil works, installation, electrical work, statutory approvals, accessibility compliance and professional sign-off remain with the appropriate project parties unless a specific support item is expressly included. Current governing-body rules, exact selected-system data and local requirements take precedence over this planning pack.
