Outdoor Living & Architecture · Technical answer

Do Side Enclosures Change Wind Loads on an Outdoor Structure?

Yes. An open-sided roof and a substantially enclosed outdoor room do not behave the same way in wind.

Planning guidance — final supplied configuration remains project-specific.

01

Enclosure changes pressure paths

Closing one or more sides changes how air enters, exits and acts on the roof and supporting frame.

02

Future enclosure should be declared

If blinds or glass may be added later, include that intention in the initial project brief so the final configuration can be reviewed appropriately.

03

Use project-specific technical review

Exact effects depend on geometry, opening state, site and product configuration. Do not infer a final wind rating from a generic website statement.
