Building a 3x3 Basketball Court: Flooring, Hoops and Equipment
01

Start with the use case

Schools, clubs and public recreation facilities have different needs for access, supervision, safeguarding, wear, booking and events.

Decide whether the court is primarily informal recreation or intended for formal competition before selecting the equipment and markings.

02

Playing dimensions and safe space

The standard 3x3 playing area is 15 metres wide and 11 metres long with one basket. Official requirements include additional boundary space; use the current FIBA rules for the intended competition level.

Do not confuse the marked court with the complete physical area. Allow safe run-off, movement, fencing, spectators and maintenance access on the site plan.

03

Surface and drainage

Outdoor tiles, coatings and other sports-flooring solutions have different base and drainage requirements. A stable substrate with correctly designed falls remains essential.

Compare ball response, traction, UV suitability, line durability, replacement parts and the maintenance requirements of the proposed product.

04

Basket and structure

Confirm the backboard, rim, support, protective padding, foundation interface and installation requirements for the exact hoop configuration.

FIBA approval, ratings and event suitability must not be implied unless the selected model has matching verified evidence.

05

Facility systems

Lighting, access fencing, signage, seating, drinking water and storage can strongly influence the quality and use of a public facility.

Indoor or event environments may additionally need timing equipment, power, acoustics, spectator separation and planned event access.

06

Long-term upkeep

Assign responsibility for surface cleaning, checks on hoop fixings, replacement parts and closing procedures following damage or severe weather.

A well documented service and spares programme can be more useful than a low initial equipment price with unclear support.

07

A coordinated supply brief

List playing surface and markings, hoop assembly, optional padding and accessories separately from concrete, drainage, electrical work and local installation.

Apollo supplies suitable sport products and packages. Local specialists handle construction, approvals, installation and site-specific certification.
