Outdoor Roof & Room Planning Handbook

This handbook is for projects where the roof cannot be planned in isolation. It connects overhead shelter, side control, drainage, lighting, cooking and climate into one outdoor-room brief.

Planning guidance — final supplied configuration remains project-specific.

01

Define the room

Record the use, occupancy, furniture zones, seasons and level of weather control expected.

02

Build the enclosure strategy

Coordinate roof type with blinds, glass or open sides and understand how the configuration changes airflow and wind behaviour.

03

Coordinate water and services

Drainage, power, lighting, heating and cooking should be resolved before surrounding finishes are completed.

04

Keep outdoor claims realistic

Outdoor systems can provide substantial shelter but should not be described as sealed waterproof rooms unless the complete envelope has been designed and verified as such.
