FÍSVOR · THERMAL QUALIFICATION

Why brightness alone does not make a display full-sun suitable.

A 3500-nit screen can still fail in full sun if the panel overheats. Visibility and thermal survival are separate engineering problems.

SHORT ANSWER

Treat brightness and thermal qualification as two separate gates.

First confirm the brightness/contrast needed for the viewing environment. Separately confirm maximum panel temperature, direct-sun tolerance, cooling architecture, enclosure/airflow, mounting and warranty for the actual orientation.

KEY PROJECT POINTS

What should drive the decision.

These are project inputs, not substitute engineering or automatic product approvals.

01

Brightness improves visibility, not panel heat tolerance.

02

Black/dark screen surfaces absorb solar energy.

03

Front glass can create a solar cavity effect.

04

Active cooling must work at the real ambient temperature.

05

Recessed mounting can reduce heat rejection.

06

Warranty exclusions can reveal unsupported sun conditions.

01

Visibility gate

Determine whether the panel is bright enough against ambient light and reflections for the viewer/content.

02

Thermal gate

Determine whether panel and electronics remain within operating limits under direct solar gain and ambient temperature.

03

Mounting gate

Check the exact wall, recess, pedestal or enclosure airflow and service-clearance conditions.

04

Evidence gate

Require exact product data or manufacturer confirmation for full-sun claims rather than relying on reseller language.

PROJECT INPUTS

What to have ready before asking for the exact system.

A stronger brief shortens the gap between product interest and a useful technical/commercial response.

EVIDENCE BOUNDARY

Full-sun wording should be evidence-gated.

A product should only be published as Full Sun where verified panel-temperature and thermal-system documentation supports sustained direct-sun installation in the intended configuration.

FAQ

Questions project teams usually need answered.

Can a 4000 nit display still overheat?

Yes. Luminance and thermal tolerance are separate characteristics.

Why does orientation matter?

Direct solar intensity and duration change by orientation and season.

What is the strongest full-sun evidence?

Exact panel temperature limits plus documented thermal architecture, allowed mounting conditions and manufacturer support/warranty for direct sun.
