Hockey
Facility Specification Pack

Hockey is highly surface-dependent. The field, water strategy, drainage, ball response, goals, containment and maintenance model should be designed together, with FIH Approved Product evidence kept distinct from certification of the finished field.

PROJECT PATHProject Brief
01

PROJECT INTENT

Define the facility level before selecting systems.

01Schools · councils · participation

Community / education

Community/multi-sport field with durable surface and basic hockey equipment.

02Clubs · academies · universities

Club / academy

Club/National-type pathway with hockey-focused turf, lighting, shelters and containment.

03Regional · national competition

Competition

Higher competition pathway with exact FIH surface/equipment and field-testing strategy.

04International · professional · broadcast

Elite / major venue

Elite international pathway with Global/Global Elite requirements, sophisticated water/maintenance, broadcast lighting and major venue systems.

02

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

Twelve coordination clauses for the complete facility.

01

geometry

Coordinate the hockey playing field, runoff, team/technical zones, goals, fencing and spectator edges to the intended level of play.

02

surface

Select water-based, dry/non-irrigated, sand-dressed/filled or multi-sport systems around FIH category, climate, water availability and maintenance.

03

equipment

Goals, backboards, nets, team shelters and technical equipment need exact-model evidence and safe anchoring.

04

lighting

Fast ball speed needs strong uniformity and glare control. Broadcast levels add vertical illuminance and camera requirements.

05

spectators

High ball containment, gates, team areas and spectator seating must be planned as one field-edge system.

06

structure

Goal anchoring, high fencing/netting, light structures, scoreboards, covers and spectator structures need project-specific engineering.

07

environment

Water availability, irrigation quality, drainage, heat, evaporation, rain and local maintenance capability can change the correct turf pathway.

08

accessibility

Accessible spectator positions and circulation should be integrated with high containment and gate layouts.

09

storage

Maintenance machinery, irrigation/service equipment, goals/spares and training gear need direct field access.

10

technology

FÍSVOR scoring/video, PA, cameras and irrigation controls can be coordinated through the venue operations layer.

11

evidence

FIH field certification independently tests the installed field, including performance plus dimensions, line marking, slope and drainage, and verifies the installed turf matches an Approved Product.

12

lifecycle

Brush/clean, manage water or dry-turf protocols, inspect seams/lines/goals/fencing, maintain irrigation/drainage and plan periodic field testing.

03

05

EVIDENCE & RELEASE

Keep each evidence type attached to what it actually proves.

01

Governing rule

Defines sport or competition requirements. It does not approve a supplier or local construction detail.

02

Exact product evidence

Testing, approval, certification or manufacturer evidence must match the selected product/configuration.

03

Installed outcome

Where applicable, field/court/facility certification relates to the completed installation rather than the product alone.

04

Project engineering

Foundations, structural supports, wind/seismic, electrical and building interfaces remain project-specific.

05

Commercial release

Quantity, documentation, warranty, freight, installation boundaries, spares and handover are closed before order.

06

MAINTENANCE & HANDOVER

Specify how performance will be maintained.

07

TECHNICAL RISK CHECK

Common symptoms that should trigger investigation.

01

Ball speed inconsistent

Review turf condition, contamination, fibre/infill/water state and maintenance.

02

Ponding

Survey slope, base/drainage and outlet performance.

03

Excess water demand

Review irrigation design, evaporation, operating protocol and dry-turf alternatives.

04

Fencing damage

Inspect impact zones, posts, mesh/net and foundations.

05

Lines move / wear

Review integrated/inlaid/painted line method and maintenance.

06

Field certification risk

Audit exact approved turf, installation, dimensions, slope, drainage and test pathway before completion.

SUPPLY BOUNDARY

Apollo is supply-only.

Local design, foundations, civil works, installation, electrical work, statutory approvals, accessibility compliance and professional sign-off remain with the appropriate project parties unless a specific support item is expressly included. Current governing-body rules, exact selected-system data and local requirements take precedence over this planning pack.
