Beach Volleyball
Facility Specification Pack

Beach volleyball is a sand-performance system, not simply volleyball outdoors. Court geometry, sand depth/quality, drainage, net/post anchoring, free zones, lighting, event barriers and spectator conditions all affect the facility.

PROJECT PATHProject Brief
01

PROJECT INTENT

Define the facility level before selecting systems.

01Schools · councils · participation

Community / education

Community sand court with safe posts, appropriate sand and practical drainage.

02Clubs · academies · universities

Club / academy

Club/resort venue with multiple courts, lighting, shade and spectator/social areas.

03Regional · national competition

Competition

Competition court with controlled sand, free zones, net system, officials and event infrastructure.

04International · professional · broadcast

Elite / major venue

FIVB-style major event pathway with larger free zone/clear space, show court, spectators, lighting and media.

02

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

Twelve coordination clauses for the complete facility.

01

geometry

The FIVB beach-volleyball court is 16 × 8 m with a minimum 3 m general free zone; higher official competitions use larger free zones.

02

surface

Use level, uniform, hazard-free sand with suitable grading/depth and drainage. FIVB official competitions require at least 40 cm sand depth.

03

equipment

Posts, net, antennae, boundary lines and anchors must be safe around bare-foot play and event movement.

04

lighting

Night competition requires strong uniform lighting and glare control; FIVB official competition guidance includes 1,000–1,500 lux measured at 1 m.

05

spectators

Keep barriers, seating, officials and fan zones outside the required free zone and maintain safe sand access.

06

structure

Post foundations/anchors, lighting, shade, temporary event structures and displays need project-specific wind/structural design.

07

environment

Wind, heat, UV, rain and sand movement are primary operational inputs; drainage and windblown sand management matter.

08

accessibility

Provide accessible spectator and venue circulation; sand access itself may require defined inclusive routes/solutions.

09

storage

Nets, lines, referee equipment, rakes, covers and event barriers need dry, secure storage.

10

technology

Scoreboards, PA, FÍSVOR, cameras and temporary-event power/data should be planned around glare, wind and crowd circulation.

11

evidence

Use the current FIVB Beach Volleyball Rules for court/free-space/equipment requirements; exact product and local structural evidence remain separate.

12

lifecycle

Rake/screen/top-up sand, inspect anchors/posts/nets/lines, manage drainage, clean lighting/displays and maintain event barriers.

05

EVIDENCE & RELEASE

Keep each evidence type attached to what it actually proves.

01

Governing rule

Defines sport or competition requirements. It does not approve a supplier or local construction detail.

02

Exact product evidence

Testing, approval, certification or manufacturer evidence must match the selected product/configuration.

03

Installed outcome

Where applicable, field/court/facility certification relates to the completed installation rather than the product alone.

04

Project engineering

Foundations, structural supports, wind/seismic, electrical and building interfaces remain project-specific.

05

Commercial release

Quantity, documentation, warranty, freight, installation boundaries, spares and handover are closed before order.

06

MAINTENANCE & HANDOVER

07

TECHNICAL RISK CHECK

Common symptoms that should trigger investigation.

01

Sand compacts/hardens

Review grading, contamination, moisture and maintenance.

02

Ponding

Review drainage layer, outlets and site levels.

03

Post movement

Inspect anchors/foundations and sand condition.

04

Windblown sand loss

Review wind exposure, perimeter treatment and maintenance.

05

Night glare

Review fixture aiming and mounting positions.

06

Free zone encroached

Recheck barriers, seating, officials and event equipment against current rules.

08

PRIMARY GOVERNING REFERENCES

Verify final requirements at the official source.

SUPPLY BOUNDARY

Apollo is supply-only.

Local design, foundations, civil works, installation, electrical work, statutory approvals, accessibility compliance and professional sign-off remain with the appropriate project parties unless a specific support item is expressly included. Current governing-body rules, exact selected-system data and local requirements take precedence over this planning pack.
