Badminton
Facility Specification Pack

Badminton is unusually sensitive to the building around it. Lighting, ceiling height, background contrast and air movement can make a technically correct court frustrating to play on, so the hall needs to be designed as part of the sport.

PROJECT PATHProject Brief
01

PROJECT INTENT

Define the facility level before selecting systems.

01Schools · councils · participation

Community / education

School/community courts with simple portable systems, durable floor and controlled airflow.

02Clubs · academies · universities

Club / academy

Club multi-court hall with better lighting, backgrounds, storage and repeat setup.

03Regional · national competition

Competition

Competition hall with exact clearances, resilient floor, controlled lighting and spectator/event infrastructure.

04International · professional · broadcast

Elite / major venue

Elite multi-court venue with disciplined airflow, lighting, media, seating, warm-up and tournament operations.

02

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

Twelve coordination clauses for the complete facility.

01

geometry

Coordinate singles/doubles markings, court-to-court separation, back/side clearances and overall hall circulation. Court count alone is not a useful hall metric.

02

surface

Select sprung/resilient wood, synthetic roll or approved competition pathways around shock, slip, seam control and portability.

03

equipment

Posts, bases/sockets, nets, umpire chairs and service/height measuring equipment need repeatable setup and safe storage.

04

lighting

Avoid direct luminaire glare in players' upward view. Background brightness and fixture position matter as much as nominal lux.

05

spectators

Keep seating and movement out of visual backgrounds and court safety zones; control bright openings behind baselines.

06

structure

Clear height, roof trusses, ducts, lights, speakers, divider tracks and scoreboards must stay out of critical shuttle trajectories.

07

environment

HVAC is a sport-performance issue. High air velocity or poorly placed supply grilles can move the shuttle and create uneven courts.

08

accessibility

Provide accessible routes/viewing without using court clearances as circulation corridors.

09

storage

Nets, posts, umpire chairs, roll floors, shuttle/teaching equipment and dividers need close, dry storage.

10

technology

Scoring, video, cameras and FÍSVOR displays should be positioned to avoid bright backgrounds and airflow obstruction.

11

evidence

Use BWF rules / technical guidance for court and equipment; exact surface and equipment evidence remains product-specific.

12

lifecycle

Control floor cleaning, seam condition, net/post setup, lighting cleanliness, HVAC balance and storage damage.

05

EVIDENCE & RELEASE

Keep each evidence type attached to what it actually proves.

01

Governing rule

Defines sport or competition requirements. It does not approve a supplier or local construction detail.

02

Exact product evidence

Testing, approval, certification or manufacturer evidence must match the selected product/configuration.

03

Installed outcome

Where applicable, field/court/facility certification relates to the completed installation rather than the product alone.

04

Project engineering

Foundations, structural supports, wind/seismic, electrical and building interfaces remain project-specific.

05

Commercial release

Quantity, documentation, warranty, freight, installation boundaries, spares and handover are closed before order.

06

MAINTENANCE & HANDOVER

Specify how performance will be maintained.

01

Floor clean

02

Roll-floor seam/edge inspection

03

Post/net inspection

04

Lighting clean / aiming review

05

08

07

TECHNICAL RISK CHECK

Common symptoms that should trigger investigation.

01

Shuttle drifts unpredictably

Measure air velocity and review supply/return grille location, doors and destratification fans.

02

Players lose shuttle in lights

Review fixture position, aiming, ceiling/background luminance and glare.

03

Dark/bright background inconsistency

Review glazing, wall finishes and spectator movement behind court.

04

Floor seams lift

Review storage, installation tension, subfloor cleanliness and adhesive/tape method.

05

Posts lean under tension

Check base/socket stability and net tension.

06

Tournament setup slow

Review court carts, storage distance and divider/official equipment sequence.

08

PRIMARY GOVERNING REFERENCES

Verify final requirements at the official source.

BWF Statutes & Laws

Use the current BWF Laws of Badminton and technical regulations as the governing reference.

SUPPLY BOUNDARY

Apollo is supply-only.

Local design, foundations, civil works, installation, electrical work, statutory approvals, accessibility compliance and professional sign-off remain with the appropriate project parties unless a specific support item is expressly included. Current governing-body rules, exact selected-system data and local requirements take precedence over this planning pack.
