LUTHVAR · SPACE PLANNING

How much space does retractable seating need?

Start with the usable room geometry, then confirm the actual manufacturer's open and stored dimensions, access and safety requirements. Available floor depth alone does not determine row count.

Your initial space brief

Enter your available frontage and depth to create a descriptive brief. This is not a seat-capacity calculator and does not determine safe row count or compliance.

Initial information for your project brief: approximately 15 m available frontage and 5 m available depth. Confirm whether this depth includes circulation and front access or applies only to the extended seating structure. Also provide the required capacity, stored footprint and clear height.

Deployed envelope

Maximum platform projection, seating risers, aisle and stair positions, front clearance and safe access

Retracted envelope

Stacked depth and height, structural clearances, stored access and circulation

Seat and aisle layout

Target capacity, sightlines, individual seat width, aisle count, escape routes and accessible/companion positions

Building interfaces

Floor support, anchorage, levels, wall/column obstructions and potential mechanical/electrical interfaces

Venue operations

Frequency of changeover, manual or powered movement, trained operators, barriers and maintenance access

Compliance review

Destination-specific fire, accessibility, spectator safety and structural requirements verified by the project team

Example: a university court with 15 m frontage and 5 m available depth

The manufacturer needs a dimensioned layout to establish the actual open and stored footprint. The stated 5 m may or may not accommodate desired seating rows after platform geometry, aisles, access and operating clearances are considered. Request more than one feasible configuration where appropriate; do not promise a row count or spectator capacity before the manufacturer reviews the space.

If the project is on an existing concrete court, confirm the slab condition and site engineering responsibilities before proposing loading or fixings.

All examples are preliminary project-planning information, not manufacturer geometry, code-compliant drawings, structural certification or capacity approvals. Apollo NZ Global is a supply-only wholesaler; local installation and approvals are the responsibility of the appointed project team.
