Use general ambient light, task light where reading or coffee preparation happens, and smaller accent light to give the room depth. Not every room needs all fittings switched on at once.

Lighting a Mid-Century or Nordic Room
The best lighting in a design-led room comes from layers rather than one bright ceiling source. Ambient, reading, task and accent light should support the furniture and routines already in the space.

Keep colour temperature and finish coherent
Warm light usually works naturally with timber and soft textiles, while lamp materials such as opal glass, paper, linen, timber and restrained metal can reinforce the room's design language.
Choose form around the furniture
A large floor lamp may anchor a lounge chair; a wall light can free a side table; a pendant can mark a dining or coffee zone. The fitting should have a spatial reason to be there.
