Multi-Sport Turf Systems

One surface strategy for shared-use sport.

Project-configured multi-sport turf for schools, communities, resorts, recreation facilities and training environments. The system is selected around the primary sport, secondary activities, line marking, utilisation, climate, base, drainage and maintenance model.

Four project pathways

Define the sport hierarchy before the surface.

A shared-use field works best when the primary sport, secondary sports and operating priorities are agreed before turf selection.

01

Multi-Sport Performance

Shared-use pathway with a defined primary sport and higher performance expectations.

02

Multi-Sport School

Education-focused pathway for PE, training and multiple field activities.

03

Multi-Sport Community

Durable public-use pathway for councils, clubs and local recreation facilities.

Selection logic

What determines the right multi-sport turf?

Shared-use surfaces must balance several sports without pretending every activity has identical performance needs.

Primary sport

The sport that controls the core surface response and field layout.

Secondary sports

Additional activities, line marking and equipment changeover.

Usage intensity

School timetable, public access, training load and event use.

Line-marking plan

Permanent and secondary lines, colours and changeover requirements.

Base & drainage

New field, hard-base conversion or replacement condition.

Climate

Heat, UV, rainfall, humidity, freeze-thaw and coastal exposure.

Maintenance model

Available brushing, cleaning, grooming and operational resources.

Multi-Sport turf system layers including turf surface, support layers, drainage and prepared base

Complete surface system

Shared use still needs a complete system.

The final multi-sport field may combine turf, infill where applicable, shock or elastic layers, prepared base, drainage, edge restraint and coordinated line marking. These components are reviewed against the declared sport hierarchy.

Supply model

LUTHVAR is supplied on a wholesale and project basis. Civil works, drainage construction, installation, testing and local compliance remain project-specific and are confirmed in the project scope.

Project brief

What we need to review a shared-use field.

The most important input is the sport hierarchy: what must perform best, what is secondary, and how the field will actually be operated.

Technical evidence

Shared-use claims must follow the exact sport mix.

A multi-sport field should not be described as meeting a sport-specific certification simply because one component has been tested elsewhere. Any formal performance or certification requirement is reviewed against the exact proposed construction and declared sport programme.

Send the project conditions before locking the turf.

We can then identify the appropriate LUTHVAR multi-sport pathway and confirm the exact technical configuration at quotation stage.
