Confirm the FIFA or local futsal format
Set the intended competition level first because pitch dimensions and some organisational requirements vary by competition.
□ Grassroots, school, club or formal competition?
□ Which FIFA or member-association rules apply?
□ What clear room or site dimensions are available?
Define users, peak load and operating hours
Plan around team training, leagues, school classes, tournaments and shared recreational use.
□ How many teams use the venue at peak?
□ Is the pitch shared with other sports?
□ What spectator and team capacity is expected?
Check the floor or outdoor base
Confirm flatness, moisture, joints, cracking, drainage and edge conditions before choosing the playing surface.

□ Are repairs required?
□ How is water managed outdoors?
Select the futsal surface
Choose a consistent surface around ball roll, traction, rapid changes of direction, cleaning and shared-use demands.
□ Permanent competition floor or shared court?
□ What footwear and user level apply?
□ How will the floor be maintained?
Coordinate goals and penalty-area geometry
Plan 3 × 2 m goals, anchoring or mobility, penalty areas and safe storage before the facility is marked.
□ Fixed, anchored or movable goals?
□ Where are goals stored when removed?
□ Are wall or fence clearances safe?
Plan substitution and team zones
Keep player changes, benches and scorer functions organised outside the active pitch.
□ Where are substitution zones?
□ How are teams separated from circulation?
□ Is formal timekeeping or scoring required?
Plan lighting and visual conditions
Coordinate light levels, glare, fixture protection and operating hours around fast ball movement.
□ Indoor or outdoor?
□ Are fixtures vulnerable to impact?
□ Are nearby properties sensitive to spill light?
Plan containment without creating hazards
Coordinate walls, fencing, divider systems and gates around the pitch and circulation.
□ Open court or contained venue?
□ Are walls safely offset or protected?
□ Where are gates placed relative to active play?
Plan shared-use line hierarchy
If basketball, netball, volleyball or pickleball share the floor, control line colours and removable equipment carefully.
□ Which sport is primary?
□ What lines can remain permanent?
□ What equipment changeover is needed?
Plan spectators, access and support spaces
Include entrances, benches, accessible viewing, toilets, storage and operational routes in the facility plan.
□ How many spectators?
□ Can accessible users reach viewing areas safely?
□ Where are support spaces located?
Plan maintenance and lifecycle
Make cleaning, floor repairs, goal inspection, line renewal and equipment storage part of the operating model.
□ Who inspects goals and floor?
□ What repair materials are retained?
□ How often does the pitch convert to other uses?
