Where teacher housing forms part of an education programme, the housing brief should be treated as permanent or longer-life residential infrastructure rather than as a staff camp by default. Household composition, privacy, storage, utilities, climate comfort, personal safety, maintenance and distance from the school all matter.
Confirm whether the homes are for individuals, couples, families, short rotations or long-term staff. Bedroom mix, privacy, storage, kitchens, laundry and outdoor areas should reflect the actual occupancy model rather than a single generic staff unit.
In remote locations, the home may be a long-term base rather than temporary lodging. Thermal comfort, ventilation, acoustic privacy, reliable water and power, secure storage and practical cooking and washing facilities should be included in the residential brief.
Map safe travel between housing and school, access during bad weather, lighting, communications, emergency access and the relationship to community services. Housing should not unintentionally isolate staff from essential services or create avoidable transport dependence.
Confirm water, wastewater, power, communications, waste collection and the local maintenance route. In difficult-logistics locations, simple serviceable components and a planned spare-parts package can be more valuable than complex equipment with no local support.
School-building standards and housing standards may differ. Treat staff housing as its own residential scope while coordinating shared site, utilities, logistics and programme phasing with the education infrastructure.
