Both wall-mounted and freestanding louvre structures can create strong outdoor spaces, but they connect to the site in very different ways. The decision should begin with the existing building and desired layout.
The fixing line, structure behind the cladding and water interface all need to be understood. A wall-mounted solution can reduce the number of posts but creates a more direct structural relationship with the house or building.
A freestanding layout can sit away from the main building or form a defined outdoor room in the landscape. It requires its own complete post and foundation strategy.
Integrated water management still needs a sensible discharge point. The most practical route may differ depending on whether the structure is attached to the building or stands independently.
Blinds, glass or wall panels may change wind behaviour and how the space functions. If enclosure is likely later, it is worth considering during the original layout decision.
